Crochet Rainbow Baby Blanket

Rainbow Throw Crochet Pattern Free
Quick and Simple Crochet Baby Blanket Pattern

The colors of the Mandala Yarns are gorgeous and inspiring. I used the Mandala Yarn Gnome for this Throw.
This crochet baby blanket was made for a friend’s baby and turned out really well.

However, at the end of the project, I decided to substitute a lighter shade of blue.

The baby blanket was crocheted as an expanding granny square. This pattern and yarn resulted in a really light weight blanket which can be used during warmer weather.

I deconstructed the Mandala Yarn Gnome and used the different colors to create this blanket. I changed the colors after approximately 4-5 rows in the beginning and every 2 rows as the blanket started getting bigger.

Pattern:

Yarn – Mandala Yarn – Gnome – 1 skein
Crochet Hook Size – I/9 5.5mm
Gauge – Not critical for this project.

Terminology:

dc- Double Crochet
Ch – Chain
Ch2 sp – Chain 2 space

Separate the colors of the yarn and choose the colors in the order that you would like. I chose to start with Yellow, Light Orange, Bright Orange, Pink, Brownish Purple, Purple, Olive Green , Turquoise, Grass Green and then Aqua. I changed colors every 4-5 rounds in the beginning and as the blanket started getting bigger, I changed colors every 2 rounds.

Round 1: In a magic circle, ch3, 2dc, ch2, *(3dc, Ch2) – * 3 times. Join with a sl st to the top of first ch3.

Round 2: Ch3, turn. (2 dc, Ch2, 3dc) in Ch2 sp. [Ch1, (3dc, Ch2, 3dc) in Ch2 sp.] 3 times, ch1, join with sl st to top of first dc,

Round 3 : Ch3, turn. 2 dc in ch-1 sp, [ch 1, (3dc, ch2, 3dc) in ch-2 sp , ch1, 3dc in ch-1 sp] 3 times, ch1, (3dc, ch2, 3dc) in ch-2 sp, ch1, join with sl st to top of first dc.

Round 4 : Ch3, turn. 2 dc in ch-1 sp, [ch1, (3dc, ch2, 3dc) in ch-2 sp, ch1, 3dc in all ch-1 spaces] 3 times, ch1, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in ch-2 sp, ch1, join with sl st to top of first dc.

Round 5 onwards: Repeat Round 4 till the blanket measures 30″ x 30″ or as per your liking.

For larger blanket sizes , you will need an extra skein of Lion Brand Mandala Gnome.

This is also a great yarn stash buster project. Try it and let me know how it turns out.
